CITY OF LONDON SCHOOL - MANDY HABERMAN ADDRESSES 6TH FORMERS
It’s great! I earn my living by doing things that I love - inventing and innovating. Ideas know no constraints and there is no ceiling on ambition so, as an inventor, you can fly as high as you dare and shape your own future. What better career can you have?
When I started out along this path, inventors were considered to be odd-ball eccentrics, good for a laugh. Certainly, inventing and entrepreneurship were not on the radar screens of student advisory services! However, perceptions have changed dramatically over the last few years and now governments around the world have recognised the importance of inventors to their national economies.
In the UK many initiatives now exist to encourage and support innovation. Bringing an invention to market, or marketing an innovative service, is very challenging and requires perseverance and courage but, if you have got what it takes, then there is no reason why you should not succeed.
When I addressed the 6th Form Design and Technology Conference at City of London Girls School it was a packed auditorium. I was delighted to see so many keen young people whose schools were actively raising their awareness to their potential in innovation. It was a privilege to share the day with them.
